Near Point Analysis Anaglyphic Slide
Item #: BC553A
Near Point Analysis Anaglyphic Slide
The No. 553A Near Point Analysis Anaglyphic Slide is an enhanced clinical tool designed to streamline near point evaluation by efficiently detecting fixation disparity, suppression, and accommodative balance at near. This updated version replaces and expands upon both the original 553A slide and the 553BRF Binocular Refraction at Near slide, shifting from polarization to anaglyphic separation for improved clinical flexibility.
Slide comes with a red/green flipper. Sized to fit in the Bernell Test Lantern™ or most standard vectogram or tranaglyph™ slide holders, such as the Bernell Dual Polachrome™.
While polarization remains ideal for many binocular assessments, this updated anaglyphic slide offers several key advantages:
- Stable separation in any gaze position: Unlike polarized targets, the image separation is not dependent on head tilt or viewing angle.
- Natural patient posture: Patients can maintain their habitual head position during testing.
- Superior contrast and cancellation: When used with an illuminated light box, the slide provides excellent red/green cancellation to better reveal suppression.
Clinically, the slide's primary function is to detect horizontal and vertical fixation disparity at near. Misalignment of either arrow relative to the zero point indicates fixation disparity, and the prism needed to align the arrow provides a direct measure of the associated phoria.
The center target serves as a bi-ocular accommodative balance check, using the same letter set employed as a suppression check in the BC13 Fixed Tranaglyph. The lower half of the slide includes four graded reading paragraphs: N4.5 (20/20 at 40 cm), N5 (20/20-20/25), N6 (20/40), and N8 (approx. 20/50) to support near acuity testing and accommodative assessments.
The No. 553A slide is a versatile, modernized tool ideal for binocular vision evaluations, near refraction, and functional assessment of fixation disparity and suppression.
