Schiborr MIT™ Training Slide Set

This expansive training slide set was designed by Katja Schiborr, M.Sc. in Vision Science, as an accessory set for the Bernell Macula Integrity Tester (MIT™) for use in testing and training of fixation using Haidinger's brush visual feedback. Various slide designs are utilized in the set to keep patient interest, as well as increase their visual skill level as they advance through therapy. The slide set includes instructions for use with the 11 slides which include:

• (1) Target slide for initial testing and training of fixation stability and localization
• (1) Number slide and (1) Letter slide for fixation training with saccades and cognitive loads
• (6) Line tracing slides for fixation training with and without crowding
• (2) Maze slides for training continuous fixation stability with movement

This training set was utilized in a research study of mTBI patients where the study results found statistically significant improvement of the accuracy and stability of fixation in patients who utilized the MIT training in addition to traditional vision therapy vs the results of patients who received clinical vision therapy alone. These results suggest that the addition of Haidinger's brush visual feedback early in vision therapy and targeted toward improving monocular foveation, will add benefit to a traditional VT program of vision rehabilitation for mTBI patients.
